Breaking Bounds Nationals
“Top Studio of the Year” Competition
To be eligible for Top Studio of the Year:
Studios must compete in each age division including:
- Mini, Junior, Teen and Senior divisions
Studios must compete in the following genres:
- Jazz, Lyrical, Contemporary and Ballet
Studios must have at least one entry in each age division in the following optional genres:
- Tap/Hip Hop, Acro/ Open, or Musical Theatre
Studios must have a minimum of one dancer competing for Artist of the Year in each age division
Studios must have dancers attending convention classes. All Artist of the Year contestants MUST attend convention classes. Breaking Bounds highly values dance education and works to ensure that every event is a space created for learning. It is expected that studios competing for Studio of the Year encourage all dancers attending Breaking Bounds Nationals, attend the convention classes
To be Awarded Breaking Bounds Top Studio of the Year Studios will be scored based on a point system
Performance Score
Competition Scores are counted throughout the competition. The studio with the combined highest performance score in each genre and age division will receive points towards Top Studio of the Year. Points are allotted based on scores.
Choreography will be considered by the professional judging panel. Criteria includes level of artistry and compositional skill, level that dancers are able to fulfil artistic vision of the choreographer and communicate the artistic intention to the audience.
Points will be allotted to each studio for overall choreography
Participation Score
Dancers participating in convention classes will be observed- attitude, work ethic, level of participation and engagement will be noted. Points will be awarded based on percentage of students from the studio that are attending convention classes, in addition to demonstration of positive attitude, work ethic, effort and engagement.
The studio with the highest points from the competition scores across all mandatory and optional genres, and age divisions as well as choreography points, combined with points received from dancer participation and engagement in convention classes will receive Top Studio of the Year!
